Do you need an apostille before or after the translation?

Your FBI report is apostilled first by the US Department of State, because it is a federal document, and then translated in Panama so the apostille appears inside the translation. Translating before the apostille is the most common mistake and forces you to redo the work. You arrange the apostille directly with that authority or through your attorney. The certificate does not expire by itself, but Immigration generally expects a recent one, often issued within the last three to six months.
