A standard one-page birth certificate (250 words) costs $20, plus $0.08 per additional word, with no rounding up to full pages. Panama's 7% ITBMS tax is added on top, so a one-page certificate comes to $21.40. Certificates with many margin notes only cost more for their extra words: 260 words comes to $22.26 with tax, not the price of two pages. German ↔ Spanish is $25 per page plus $0.10 per additional word.

Do you need an apostille before or after the translation?

If your birth certificate was issued abroad, apostille it first in the state or country that issued it, then translate it in Panama so the apostille is translated too. For USCIS no apostille is required, only the certified translation under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3). If you also need to apostille a Panamanian document, you do that directly at MIRE or through your attorney. Lingo does not provide apostilles, but we will explain the right order.

Frequently asked questions

I already have a translation from back home. Will Panama accept it?
Usually not. Panamanian authorities such as the National Immigration Service and the Civil Registry expect the translation to be signed by a Certified Public Translator certified by MEDUCA under Executive Decree 975 of 2017 and registered with MIRE. A translation made outside Panama, even an official one there, normally has to be redone here by a local TPA.

Is a birth record or certificate of live birth the same document?
Yes. Depending on the country it may be called a birth certificate, birth record, birth registration or certificate of live birth, but it is the same civil registry document. We translate everything on it, including seals, apostilles and margin notes, so it is not sent back at the counter over a missing detail. Pricing starts at $20 per 250-word page.
Does the translation need to be notarized?
For most processes inside Panama, the TPA's signature and seal are enough under Executive Decree 975 of 2017, with no notary involved. Some destinations abroad ask for the translator's signature to be authenticated by a notary. Lingo does not offer notarization, so that step happens directly at a notary's office.
